My work focuses upon the dynamics of personal, organisational and social change, and the interplay of these dynamics in the rich space of meso community work. I have a particular interest in mental health, how we can support people to belong, and the ethics of this often challenging work for all involved. A more recent fascination for me is the ecological interplay of home and work and mental health: how and where we live, and how we spend our time, and the consequences for our wellbeing. The roles I currently employ to do this work include as a lecturer and researcher in Community Development within the School of Social Science at The University of Queensland, Australia; as a community worker and organisational consultant with the non-profit Community Praxis Co-op; and as a volunteer and committee member for a local mental health network, A Place to Belong.
I am influenced by 25 years of experience and study in community development, the disability sector, education, and psychology. I have previously worked in the public sector, and the community sector, and I am now located in tertiary education. I have published in community development, mental health, disability, social policy, social work and education journals. My less horrific poetry appears in Antipodes: A North American Journal of Australian Literature. I was born and bred in Byron Bay, Australia and its beautiful hinterland, and am unable to account for my inability to surf. Recent publications:Latest journal article:
